I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dr. Pelé Raymond as a guest on his podcast, Profitable Happiness. He did a great job getting me to touch on areas that will help every listener achieve their own Corporate Swagger™. Enjoy the show...and the background guest appearances.
In everything he does, it's all about "why" he does it: To empower the underdog to compete on a stage they're statistically not qualified to be on- and win! His own life is no exception. See a wall, get over a wall. That's his approach personally and professionally. In doing so, he's been able to leave his mark in several spaces.
In one swift decision, he went from college student to legal guardian. Choosing to pursue gainful employment instead of a college degree was the only way to provide for his then, 12- & 15-year-old sisters. What he learned from that experience has become the cornerstone for what he teaches other college students, young professionals, and emerging leaders.
It took two loving choir teachers, Richard and Martha Surface, to unearth this treasure- a gifting to sing classical music. What was once just a talent to perform on stage would later become a tool to disrupt limitations. Let's face it, it's not every day you run into a black man whose most memorable college moment was performing Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.
Living in a new city, meeting a new stepdad, and the arrival of a new sister made for a rough ride. Raised in a strict military household added even more discomfort. Subconsciously, Rodney began building the mental fortitude needed to persevere. A quality that would become his calling card.
Rodney is still a big kid at heart. His experience and wisdom give him credibility. His youthful magnetism provides the connection to communicate effectively with his target audience. It's a good thing that little boy stuck around.
